Dr. Ivan Pavlov’s groundbreaking work revealed that a dog will respond to neutral stimuli, such as a bell, in the same way that it will respond to, say, mouth-watering food. We will discuss how widely applicable this research is.
Meets once for 60 minutes
A basic understand of the definition and purpose of psychology is helpful. During this class, I will share a Powerpoint presentation and appropriate videos to introduce the concept of classical conditioning. We will also go through some exercises on paper, and then one on this website: https://www.nobelprize.org/educational/medicine/pavlov/pavlov.html where students can try their hand at classical conditioning.
By the end of the course, students should be able to determine what characteristics make up classical condition and give everyday examples of this.
